HE CHANGES NOT

It is not until we are tested that we really understand that God does not change!  “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.”  Hebrews 13:8 “For I am the Lord, I change not;” Malachi 3:6 “I am the Alpha and Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8

For a character trait of our God, how many of us truly appreciate this awesome, comforting, sustaining love of God!  Throughout history, mankind has experienced wars, earthquakes, nuclear meltdowns, atomic bombs, famines, depressions, pandemics, plagues, tsunamis, and other devastations.  And throughout them all, God has not changed.  As a matter of fact, some of them are called “acts of God”.  And they are, literally.

One of the great things that challenges require of us, is to take stock in how we are living.  Often, we “float” through life following the dictates of our own interest until something jars us into reality.  It wakes us up, as it were, to the critical need of living in the present.  Jesus said, “Take therefore no thought for tomorrow; for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself.  Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Matthew 6:34

What Jesus was helping us to understand is, often we spend our days in the past, in regret, around what I wish I shoulda, woulda, coulda done.  And we become bitter and woeful when we do.  Or, we live in the future, which causes worry, depression, fear and angst!  And they say that ninety percent of that which we worry about, never comes to pass!

Jesus had a better idea.  Let’s live in today!  Doesn’t tomorrow have enough trouble of its own?  And then He tells us How to live in today!

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 The Message Bible puts it this way, “People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.  Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions.  Don’t worry about missing out.  You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.”

So, how do we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (His right way of doing things)?  How do we steep our life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions?

Let’s start with the main purpose for which we were created!  They asked Jesus, “What is the first and greatest commandment?”  And Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

We were created to love God and be loved by Him.  Everything thing else is supposed to flow out of that.  What is the basic problem in the world today?  Hint.  It’s not any of the devastations or pandemics.  When we love God and walk with Him and live out the life He has for us, we can have confidence that He will take care of us.  Why can we have confidence?  Because not only did He do it throughout history time and again but He delights in doing it.

“The Lord preserves all who love Him, But the wicked He will destroy.”  Psalm 145:20

He loves to love us and display His awesome love in great and mighty acts and deeds.  “They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power, To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.”Psalm 145:11-12

He wants the world to know that He is the one true God and we are His people.

Do you see how powerful it is that God never changes?  He is the same yesterday, today and forever.  His love never changes. So, when these challenges of life come, what are we to do?  Turn around, from where we were heading and turn right into the loving arms of our God and King, Jesus.  Let’s renew our passion for Him like it was always supposed to be.  Let’s pursue Him relentlessly and He pursues us.

Let’s “run on the high hills of God and hear Him say to us, “Rise up my love, my fair one, And come away.  For lo, the winter is past, The rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtle dove is heard in our land.  The fig tree puts forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grapes Give a good smell.  Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away!” SoS 2:10-12

If you seek Him, He will let you find Him!  Let’s go!
