PSALM 121

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved: he who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, he that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper: the LORD is your shade at your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil: he shall preserve your soul.

The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

Are your eyes cast down with worry, anxiety and stress?  Are you focused on the problem?  Has the problem become so big in your sight that you can see around it or over it?  What are you meditating on?  The word meditate means “to chew on like a cow chews its cud”.  Joshua 1:8 encourages us to “chew” on God’s Word, day and night.  Instead of telling God how big our problems are, let’s tell our problems how big our God is.  He delights in showing Himself strong in the atmosphere of faith!

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

As we meditate day and night, let’s “chew” on the Lord and how amazing He really is.  He who made heaven and earth, He who made the birds of the air, and the lilies of the valley, how much more does He care for you!  Are we looking to Him in faith?  Are we agreeing with His promises and declaring them in our given situations and thereby bringing “heaven down on earth”?  Let’s find specific scriptures (promises) for each of our concerns.  When we “chew” on His word, we meditate on Him, for He is the Word made flesh.

He will not allow your foot to be moved: he who keeps you will not slumber.

He has given His angels charge over you.  His angels are “ministering spirits to the heirs of salvation” Hebrews 1:14 The very hairs on your head are numbered.

Luke 12:7 How much more is He looking out for you?

Behold, he that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

Behold, means to take a good look at something, or remember.  This is our time to remember all the times the Lord was there for you.  This is time to recount all the wonderous deeds that He has done in your life.  Journaling is a great way to easily recount His mighty deeds that have been displayed throughout your walk with Him.  King David said that he would “declare His glory among the heathen, his wonders among all the people” Psalm 96:3

The LORD is your keeper: the LORD is your shade at your right hand.

“Keeper” refers to a guard or watchman. “And your righteousness (He is our righteousness) shall go before you and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard” Isaiah 58:8b The Lord is my shade speaks of giving me rest.  Didn’t He invite us to “Come unto Me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I’ll give your rest for your souls”? Matthew 11:28 And at your right hand speaks of “at all times”, whenever I need it.

The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

This speaks of protecting you from those things that might be outside of your control.  Have you ever thanked God for all the hurts, terrors, accidents et al, that you have never had to experience?  Have you given consideration of all His protection over your life you didn’t even know you needed?  Hasn’t He always been there for you?

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil: he shall preserve your soul.

Hasn’t He promised to be our Good Shepard?  He knows how to lead you beside still waters and restore your soul (your mind, will and emotions).  Yet we need to do our part and spend time with Him and ask of Him to do just that.  He is leading us in the paths of righteousness with His rod and staff.  His rod to ward off enemies (what enemies are hassling you) as you walk with Him.  His staff (the shepherd’s hook) is to gently bring you back to Himself when we begin to go astray.

The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore

This is a picture of Adam and Eve in the garden, walking with Him “in the cool of the day”.  Your going out and your coming in, forevermore.  His plan from the beginning was for us to walk with Him in this life and throughout eternity.  To share this love relationship.  To never be separated from Him.  Didn’t He promise to “never leave nor forsake you but I will be with you always, even unto the end of the age? Deuteronomy 31:6, Matthew 28:20

Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord, His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth.” Hosea 6:3
